The cardboard box go-kart

We are all familiar with this scenario: it’s a rainy Sunday, mid-morning, possibly during the school holidays. The kids are running riot around the house and there seems no way of entertaining them all simultaneously (owing to their different ages), whilst indoors and by not wrecking your home at the same time. Taking them to the museum will be a nightmare, so there’s only one thing for it: make your own cardboard box go-kart, for use on sunnier days.
All you really need is a large-ish box, some glue, maybe a couple of egg boxes or yoghurt cartons, and if you’re feeling really creative, sticky back plastic, shiny paper and paints. The beauty of a project like this is that the kids are in charge, and their go-kart will go as far as their imaginations do. The possibilities are endless, and will certainly keep them occupied for a few hours while you put your feet up and enjoy a well earned cup of tea- in close proximity of the building site, of course.

Schools ban popular children’s toys

It’s a story we hear time and time again; a craze hits children all over the UK, whether it be an item of clothing, a toy, or a collectable, they bring them to school, and the school bans the item from the site. This age-old conundrum of battling against the fashion, or indulging your children, is a tricky one, and many agree with the confiscation of these toys or items, as they can cause arguments between pupils, and tensions between those comparing their wares. Schools also have the added worry of toys and other in-fashion items causing an unwanted distraction in lessons, making the job of many teachers extremely difficult.
We at Berg Toys would love to know your views on this- are you a parent who has had to buy all the in-fashion toys, only to find that your child cannot share them with their friends at school? Are you a teacher who has had to deal with waves of fads coming through your classroom, and have devised ways in which to combat the distraction factor for kids? It’s fair to say that we at Berg Toys just love anything we can build, whether it be go-karts, towers made from cardboard boxes, or miniature villages built from building blocks. We love the classic, brightly-coloured wooden ones, the big plastic Duplo ones, and of course the varied shaped blocks that help finish off the perfect house/tower/bus/helicopter. But for all these, there really is no beating the ultimate classic building device: Lego. We’ve always been avid fans of its durability, versatility and of course imaginative designs for Lego people. So can you imagine our delight when we discovered that we could get our own Berg Toys team Lego man made. Too overwhelmed to contain our excitement, we wanted to let the whole world know that we’ll be joining thousands of other members of the British public, in seeing our name printed on a little yellow fellow- all in the name of art. Ex-student Adam Oppenheimer came up with the plan as part of a recruitment process for a top advertising agency; the challenge was to set up a Facebook group which would accumulate as many members as possible in the shortest time. By joining, each participant is awarded a character. Well, Adam, you’ve got us hooked…and we can’t wait to see our name imprinted on a small man.

Water Pistols keep the edge off the summer heat

There’s nothing we like better than a good bit of sunshine in the Spring, and this year it seems we’re getting some. The days are getting longer, the evenings warmer, and those lazy weekend days are perfect for lounging around in the local park. Of course, if you’re hanging in the heat all day, there’s only one way in which you should definitely cool yourself off- and that’s with the good old-fashioned, never-failing water pistol. Berg – the leading manufacturer of Go Karts across Europe – launched the balanz bike to great fanfare two years ago. Berg has a long establised reputation in the karting field and they are famous for their build quality and extensive spare parts range. Cheaper manufacturers come and go and rarely offer spare parts – those who choose the Berg range of karts are guaranteed their kart can be updated and repaired for many years to come.

There are two versions – the Bazzic XL and the Extenz XL – the main difference being that the Extenz has a gear system which makes it a great deal more practical in areas with slopes and gentle hills. Berg Moov Seven in One Kit – A Review

So finally after a long fortnight of bank holidays and short weeks we have finally taken the time to put together a review of the seven in one Berg Moov kit – we hope this information will be of use to prospective and existing customers. The Berg Moov was launched in 2008 to much critical acclaim – winning a Red Dot design in 2008.

The Berg Moov range was changed in March 2009 to incorporate two sizes of kit – giving the fans of the construction kit three differently sized kits as options.

We were such fans of the kit that we started a website dedicated to the range – www.iliketomoovit.com. Never before had we seen a toy developed to give children the opportunity to build a robust toy they can ride, without requiring tools or their parents’ help. The materials are simple: wood, coated structural components, and a patented rubber ring as a connection system.

What’s in the Seven in One kit?

Firstly it is important to note that the seven in one kit has over 150 parts which enable children to construct seven models ranging from a helicopter and crane to great fun ride-on toys such as the chopper and scooter. We always take time to explain that you cannot build seven models at any one time – rather children construct one option and then take the parts to pieces and construct a second option.

As with all of the Berg Moov range the quality of the build is excellent and once children get the hang of how the o-rings work in the construction system some of the models can be assembled in under half an hour. Berg Moov Ten in One Kit – Our thoughts

The Berg Moov Ten in One kit was launched in the UK in March 2009 as the advanced “Street Kit” box part of the wider Berg Moov offering. Berg launched the Moov in 2008 to much fanfare and it was awarded toy of the year in a number of European countries last year.

The “Street Kit” Berg Moov is the most expensive of the kits currently offered at £219.99 – but it is also the most extensive containing the parts needed to construct any one of ten potential models at any one time. We also believe that this moves the Moov away from the ride-on market and more towards the children’s construction market. We think that this is an important move as much of the satisfaction/enjoyment that children gain with a Moov is during the period of construction – when they open a box with 175 parts and construct a life-size toy.

The core of the Berg Moov range was always the construction of ride-on toys that evoked the memories of soap box go karts in the fathers. The 10 in One allows from the construction of five ride-on toys – all of which are substantial and children will have great fun with.

If you are new to the Moov range please note that none of these ride-on toys have pedals and require either a downhill slope or an equally excitable friend to push.

Berg have moved the Moov range further forward with other construction toys such as the helicopter and the crane. Obviously the set does have four wheels and to get an idea of what can be constucted outside of the ten core models it is worth looking at the customer photo section of the Berg Moov site.
